Strengthening the sustainability of berry production (RB22001)

Key research provider: Life Cycle Strategies
Publication date: Tuesday, September 9, 2025

What was it all about?

This project generated data on the environmental impacts of raspberry and blackberry production in Australia using life cycle assessment (LCA) methods. It aimed to help berry growers and industry associations understand the scale and significance of impacts from greenhouse gas emissions and water use across current production systems. The study provided baseline accounts for GHG emissions and water scarcity, environmental performance metrics per kilogram of berries, and analyses showing sources and relative significance of impacts compared to other food products.
